Retreats provide an
opportunity and environment where you will be able to enhance your practice and
deepen your knowledge. Poulstone Court is set in
the idyllic Herefordshire countryside. The peaceful and
remote feeling both inside and out is ideal for a time of personal growth and
experience. The whole house will be reserved exclusively for this retreat, with
two spacious practice rooms, a group lounge, and comfortable bedrooms all with
lovely views over the surrounding countryside. All food is home-cooked,
wholesome, delicious and vegetarian, including plenty of vegetables from the
kitchen garden.
The leaders will
introduce you to aspects of philosophy and practices that are ofte
n
missed
during general
classes, and there
will
be the opportunity for you to have direct contact with the teachers and receive
guidance for your personal practice. The programme will include
daily
Yoga & Tai Chi classes, early morning & evening meditation, afternoon Tai Chi, a
walking meditation, guided walks and talks/workshops on
Yoga philosophy, plus free time to appreciate the gardens, grounds and
surrounding countryside.
Please bring a Yoga mat, blanket, cushion and comfortable clothing for the Yoga classes.
The
village of Kings Caple is set in the largest loop of the River Wye between
Ross-on-Wye and Hereford. A few minutes walk away from Poulstone Court is
a footbridge over the Wye leading to Sellack Church. The footbridge
was built at the instigation (and largely the expense) of the local clergyman in
1895. The churches of Sellack and Kings Caple are run by the same
clergyman and historically the only means of getting between the two was by a
ferry. The ferrymen were notoriously difficult and frequently refused to
carry the priest. One had resorted to walking across the river using
stilts, but the Rev Augustin Ley came up with a more lasting solution.
We will be able to appreciate his foresight when we use the bridge to reach
Sellack Common for our walking meditation and pause in Sellack Church for some
personal reflection.
The retreat will start on the Thursday at 16.00 and finish on the Sunday at 14:30.
Heather
teaches Yoga classes, provides tuition for private and
corporate clients, runs Yoga & Meditation Workshops and Retreats She teaches in
bespoke spas, health clubs, schools, for Local Authorities, at The Yoga Show at
Olympia and The International Yoga Festival in Egypt. Heather also runs courses
on stress management which she can tailor for individuals, corporate clients or
students preparing for exams.
As well as Yoga, she teaches Pilates and ChiBall and introduces some of these techniques into her yoga classes. These three disciplines help to develop coordination, postural alignment, effective breathing and core stability with flowing movement.
Tony
organises the walking meditation and guided walks as well as looking after the
logistics of the retreat. He has over 40 years experience of hill walking. Tony was brought up
in a village less than 10 miles from Poulstone Court so knows the area well,
having cycled or walked most of it as well as canoeing the river from Hereford
to Ross. He has planned walks to take in stretches of the 'Wye Valley
Walk' as well as the 'Herefordshire Trail'. During the walks we will take
time to visit some beautiful village churches including one with quite
spectacular Italianate architecture.

Andy Hamilton will be providing Tai Chi lessons. Tai Chi is based on the ancient concept of Chi energy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is believed that there are meridians or pathways which travel through the body carrying the Chi energy. Problems occur if there are blockages or imbalances in the flow. By performing the postures of the Tai Chi 'Form' with relaxed natural breathing and focusing the mind then the Chi is helped to flow smoothly through the channels. The smooth gentle movements also aid relaxation & balance, increase flexibility and exercise the muscles.
Fees per person include daily Yoga classes, Tai Chi classes, morning and evening meditation & nidra, walking meditation, accommodation, all meals and guided walks.
