For the eight year running, Heather George and Tony Davis will be running special Yoga classes as part of World Yoga Day to raise money to support human rights on Sunday 22nd February at River Bourne Health Club, Chertsey. Please arrive by 14:00 to sign in. We will be joined by local teachers: JC Rawady, Debbie Wherlock, Andy Hamilton and Paul Allen. Please bring a Yoga mat.
World Yoga Day is a 2 hour Yoga practice in every time zone around the world thus leading to 24 hours of continuous Yoga. The day will start in New Zealand, then cross Australia, Thailand, mainland Asia including Russia and then Scandinavia, the Middle East & Africa and into mainland Europe, UK and then spread across South America, Canada and the USA. The final classes will be held on the west coast of North and South America.
In 2015 World Yoga Day will support The Tara education project in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The benefits of education go far beyond being able to read a book or sign your name. Educated girls grow up to be mothers with healthier children than their less educated peers. Their children are more likely to be educated themselves and less likely to be impoverished. By educating one child, we can empower generations.
The TARA Project’s first and largest program is their education program Thriving Scholars, through which TARA is:
Providing scholarships;
Researching hygiene solutions to increase girls regular attendance in school;
Partnering with local schools top identify ways to provide safe, well equipped learning spaces.
Their scholars are not the only ones to benefit from TARA’s Thriving Scholars program— their families and communities benefit, too. The scholars contribute to TARA’s larger goal of lifting communities out of poverty by serving as teachers, health workers, engineers, mobilisers and leaders in their home communities.
The TARA Project also seeks to expand the girls’ education program in rural Kenya to include:
Yoga and TARA have some things in common: flexibility, respect and inclusiveness. So get in your warrior pose and help us educate the next generation—a little goes a long way! To find out more go to www.taraproject.org
